ENGINE COOLANT (ANTIFREEZE)

Engine coolant (also known as antifreeze) is specially formulated to ensure your engine doesn’t freeze or overheat. Water alone cannot do this.

Engine coolant has three jobs.  The first is to protect the engine parts; the second is to keep the engine from overheating and the third is to keep the engine from freezing.

As the coolant deteriorates, it becomes acidic and starts to eat away at the engine parts.  The HVAC system gaskets and seals also start to leak.

If your car has overheated and you are low on coolant, in a pinch you could add water to the engine to get you through (just make sure your engine has cooled down before you do this).  Also, this isn’t something you would want to do on a consisten basis as water doesn’t have any additives in it to help with the coolant systems.

Coolant works by removing heat from the engine block, protecting the engine from overheating while at the same time lubricating the water pump seals reducing rust and oxidation. Over time coolant loses its ability to protect vital engine parts, which can decrease the performance and life of your engine.

Properly maintaining your antifreeze will help you avoid engine damage. Another important benefit is that it inhibits rust and corrosion in the cooling system and helps with efficient HVAC operation.

Our Antifreeze (Engine Coolant) Exchange Service Includes:

  • visually checking the radiator and radiator hoses for leaks
  • evacuating the old coolant
  • refilling the cooling system with the appropriate type and amount of antifreeze/coolant
